{ travel tips }

Travelling can be stressfull, ok I admit not for everyone but if you’re a tad of a controlfreak you want to have everything packed even though you can probably buy anything you need at your (holiday) destination….

So I make lists, and now I have a masterlist that I only have to adapt depending on what activities we have at our destination. A lot of my young living workfriends don’t need lists, but those that do  want my master list…

Well I’m all about sharing but first, my 5 general travel tips  ….

1. Extention cord
Pack an extention cord for you hotelroom, there are never enough outlets in hotel rooms especially if you are travelling somewhere with different outlets than they have in your homecountry. This way you only need 1 converter and can recharge all the devices you brought along.

powercube
2. Ziploc bags & Sealing clips (from IKEA)
I always buy snacks and other things on the road that get old and spilled in my bag. So I pack a few of these to keep everything where it should be and fresh.

3. Clothes pins
Not to hang any clothes in my hotel room but to keep the curtains shut. Don’t you just hate it when the curtains never entirely closes and you wake up too soon in the morning,  no just me? Well hence the clothes pins 😉 You’re welcome!

4. Bag
Pack an extra bag in your cabin trolley! Almost every time I am asked to check in my cabin trolley directly or at the gate because the flight is overbooked. First time I was caught off guard and had to carry my necessities in my hands until I bought some things at the tax free shop. Not anymore. I have my necessities in my extra bag and just whip it out when they want me to check it in. And if it’s not necessary I have a handy bag at my destination.

5. Thieves cleaner
It’s not just a great, chemical free natural cleaner that only costs € 23,90 and makes approx 32 spray bottles for € 0,80 cents a bottle (1 cap in 32 oz/1 liter). It’s also an amazing Ironing hack, great for any trip but also at home for people that don”t like to iron 😉
I bring a little bottle of thieves cleaner with me on my trips, yes a cleaner and not because I plan on cleaning my hotel room but because it helps with wrinkled clothes. Not all hotel rooms have an ironing board and this technique will help you keep you clothes nice and straight.

Here’s a video on how it works!

6. Fleece wrap
A must have for cold nights and long flights, I love mine from Optidee and don’t fly without that, my neck pillow and my fluffy socks.

7. Diffuser
We have diffusers in every room of our home to set the mood and add some natural scent when needed. So when I travel I like to bring one along (not all accomodation or rental cars are as fresh as I would like them to be), obviously I need a cute small one so the Young Living orb is the best travelbuddy (great for at work or in the car as well as they charge with an usb outlet. I haven’t used it in the plane yet but this next trip I am going to test that.

8. Essential Oils
Duh, if I use them at home obviously I need them on the road, flight and where I am staying. To make sure I am relaxed, my ears adjust to the different heights, I sleep sound, my tummy stays happy and for any aches, scrapes and immune support that I need.

9. Supplements
I use supplements daily and will pack them all, sorted & counted per day, in 3 ziploc bags marked morning, aftenoon and evening. But the one I use extra on the road is Life 9, I am extremely sensitive to water abroad (I’ve had years of health problemd from unwanted guests I’ve brought back from holiday so trust me on this I need to keep my gut healthy and uninviting) and even though I don’t drink it and avoid ice cubes all fresh produce in restaurants is washed in it. So probiotics are a must during and after a trip abroad. I also pack Ningxia Red singles to keep up my energy and give my body all the antioxidants it needs on a daily basis.

10. Clothes vs activities
I make a list of the days we are abroad and the activities on that day and that’s how I pick my outfits. This is more for the business trips we make as on holiday it’s not so important what to wear I mean it’s all bikini’s and summer dresses with matching flipflops right 😉

11. Beauty/Personal products
Bringing all of your beauty products will increase the weight of your suitcase so here are some easy ways to bring less and how to store it.

Portable silicone (preferably those that stick to the wall) for shampoo, conditioners and showergel. Don’t fill them up all the way or they will overflow 😉

or alternatively you can bring small foampump bottles. Just one table spoon of your showergel of facewash, add water and you have plenty to last you your trip.

Put facecream in either lenscases or in stackeable containers

Don’t you just hate it when bathrooms don’t have enough storage space for all your toiletries, well we brought this on a cruise with us and it was so helpful as a place to store all of our toiletries!

12. Suitcase organizers
ok last one … But have you ever had your suitcase opened at customs returning from a trip? I have and believe me it is not a pretty site to have your dirty underware all over the suitcase. And flying out I like to be able to grab my bikini or any other item I need when I get to my room and not have to search my whole suitcase for it. So all underwear together, beachware together etc. you get the point right. suitcase organisers

Now I purposely did not add any “where to purchase links” because to be honest I buy a lot of these things on Ali Express and the sellers and the products they offer change constantly so just google them or search there with the description and I am sure you will find it!

Last but not least here’s my current master list,  “a living document” as I update it after every trip so one day it will be the ultimate packing list and I will never forget a thing I need.

Cupcake tasting in Washington

Our first cupcake tasting in  Washington was at Hello Cupcake, we had to celebrate dude #2’s official birthdate so there was no better excuse !
We had 24 carrot (in the back), heart of darkness (left), prima donna for the birthday boy and the one with the bit of chocolate is yet to be named (have to check my holiday diary).

Our second cupcake tasting was also in Washington, we got some cupcakes to share from the Red Velvet Cupcakery.

Bad mommy, i had to have the first bite, can you tell they’re jealous ?  But see I shared them ….

To be honest both times they were good but I was not so impressed by the cupcakes themselves as I was in the choice of flavors and the pretty swirls they made on them.

Life

Hope all is well with all my blog readers ( I know there are some LOL just always wonder who …) ! Thought I’d let you know what’s up in Daan’s life 😉

I’m busy getting organized for my trip to London this weekend with my mother, leaving friday morning and will be back sunday evening. It’s been a while since I was in the UK and I cannot remember when my mom and I have been on a trip for more than a day together or in the UK together (I think this was when I was like 14 orso) so this will be fun ! I’m looking forward to visiting Anthropology, GAP, Cath Kidson and Alfie’s Antique Market. I bought a fun touristy book called 100% London and it has lots of fun restaurant, shop and just touristy things in it so we plan to use that for some info if we run out of idea’s but any other tips are welcome ….

Oh and my diet did it’s job I’m totally cleansed, just have to keep up with avoiding white sugar and use cane sugar instead so I will be testing that in my cupcake recipe’s. I decided to stay on this sugarless route as I’m used to it now. My vitality and energy levels are still not good so he advised me to take vitamin’s (he said Centrum and Supradyn are very good) that I should take throughout the winter. I still fall asleep on the couch about 2 to 3 evenings a week so I’m not feeling a difference yet … Any tips are welcome for this !

Another thing I just have to share with you is that Colin is swimming for his A certificate tommorow, we were amazed he was at all ready for it since he started last year december, swimming twice a week. We’re very proud as we know how hard it is for him to focus with so many distractions !

I’m sure the boys won’t miss me too much as they have a pretty full weekend planned and lot’s of boys things they want to do.

My summer holiday

Spent purging, re-organizing, beach, babysitting Issie, Slagharen, De Efteling, Geocaching, lots of sleep-overs, Ice Age 3 3D, Linaeushof, Waterspeeltuin, 7 days of DYI, Scrapbooking, THE biggest Carnival of the Netherlands, lot’s of dvd’s (watchmen, new in town, the pursuit of happines, the wrestler, baby mamma, the bankjob, we are marshal = loved this one, home of the brave, st. trinian, suburban girl, need for speed), physiotherapy with lot’s of tummy excercises

here are some pics, that I used to make a mini album with for the boys so they could show in school what they did in their summer holiday. I wanted to share more but picasa keeps making the folders that I put in there, after 2x I give up…

3 weeks of holiday have gone by

Updating on the last 2 weeks (I am typing up a recap of disney for your reading pleasure and will post it soon) of our very rainy days spent at home;

* My cute (& very tall) brother came over to stay for 2 days and the boys wore him out … Hope he comes again soon.

* Went for a superyummy High tea over here with my aunt (it was her b’day present) and my mom. I definately want to go again with some friends of mine ! Here’s some pics, I can’t believe I took so many good shots and even got the girls to do some fun poses :

Oh and I’m sorry I forgot to take pics of most of the food, but it was so good and we were so hungry it was gone before we knew it ….. but if ever you are in Heemstede, check it out !
* Colin just had his 1st ski lesson and he did really well and enjoyed it a lot, I had to miss it but I’m going with for the 2nd lesson.
* Getting caught up on everyone’s blog, that’s a lot of work even with bloglines ….
* Dvd’s I’ve watched (and I’ve been watching a few) are Cloverfield (I thought it was a fresh view but I hate open endings !! DH did not like it at all), Sweet Home Alabama (Love Reese Witherspoon), Love actually (1st movie I love that has Hugh Grant in it), Flight Plan (this movie really had me doubting what was true or not so thumbs up !!), Eastern Promises (sorry Liek but we turned it off after about 45 min. it’s just not us …) Save the last dance 2 and Step Up 2 (I so wanna take up street dancing again).

* Took the boys to an indoor playground and met up with friends Flo, Mar10e and Wendy. The boys had a blast and we had some time to chat about girlstuff, laugh, complain and care ….

* Spent a fun evening with my bf’s Liek & Mar10e, going for dinner in Delft and to see the SATC movie. That was so much fun it’s like watching a whole bunch of episodes after each other, I almost choked laughing @ the movie …. Mar10e you have to catch all the reruns soon and we’ll watch it again, you’ll love it even more !!

The boys went to stay with their grandparents for 2,5 days so that gave DH and me time to ;

* Scrap all day and evening with Kirs and Marianne, we had a dt lunch with the 3 of us. I’ve actually been scrapping a lot lately, one lo I cannot show yet, the others are works in process but I made this project for the mls blog, if you want a step by step check out the blog.

* I’ve been sanding (god I hate doing that) and painting a lot of woodwork, finally I have found the color I like, SCHUIM thanks to Wendy. And for next week I have planned to do the huge window in the living room and the doorposting (sorry I don’t thing that is the right word for it …), the week after that the stairs and I’ll be starting on the walls in the hallway too. Then I have to do the kitchen woordwork and the downstairs is done !!! Yay can’t wait as I’m on roll now I aim to finish the painting of the downstairs before I return to work.

* Went out to a movie with DH and since we are big scifi and Fantasy fans we went to Chronicles of Narnia; Prince Caspian and we loved it ! Can’t wait till the next one (there are 7 books so we should have lot’s more good ones to come) which is coming out next year. Till then sweet Prince Caspian 😉

* I’ve cleaned and re-organised the boys rooms, de-cluttered a lot of things. I moved stuff from Michael to Colin’s room as he was determined to keep the fussball table in his room, and they play in Colin’s room a lot so that won’t matter if the toys are over there.

* we got the garden cleaned up, threw a lot away, so we’re almost done just have to relocate some old pots (found them a new home @ Ed’s aunt & uncle) and then it’s cleaned out 😀 .
