Travel Tips

Travelling can be stressfull, ok I admit not for everyone but if you’re a tad of a controlfreak you want to have everything packed even though you can probably buy anything you need at your (holiday) destination….

So I make lists, and now I have a masterlist that I only have to adapt depending on what activities we have at our destination. A lot of my young living workfriends don’t need lists, but those that do  want my master list…

Well I’m all about sharing but first, my 5 general travel tips  ….

1. Extention cord
Pack an extention cord for you hotelroom, there are never enough outlets in hotel rooms especially if you are travelling somewhere with different outlets than they have in your homecountry. This way you only need 1 converter and can recharge all the devices you brought along.

powercube
2. Ziploc bags & Sealing clips (from IKEA)
I always buy snacks and other things on the road that get old and spilled in my bag. So I pack a few of these to keep everything where it should be and fresh.

3. Clothes pins
Not to hang any clothes in my hotel room but to keep the curtains shut. Don’t you just hate it when the curtains never entirely closes and you wake up too soon in the morning,  no just me? Well hence the clothes pins 😉 You’re welcome!

4. Bag
Pack an extra bag in your cabin trolley! Almost every time I am asked to check in my cabin trolley directly or at the gate because the flight is overbooked. First time I was caught off guard and had to carry my necessities in my hands until I bought some things at the tax free shop. Not anymore. I have my necessities in my extra bag and just whip it out when they want me to check it in. And if it’s not necessary I have a handy bag at my destination.

5. Thieves cleaner
It’s not just a great, chemical free natural cleaner that only costs € 23,90 and makes approx 32 spray bottles for € 0,80 cents a bottle (1 cap in 32 oz/1 liter). It’s also an amazing Ironing hack, great for any trip but also at home for people that don”t like to iron 😉
I bring a little bottle of thieves cleaner with me on my trips, yes a cleaner and not because I plan on cleaning my hotel room but because it helps with wrinkled clothes. Not all hotel rooms have an ironing board and this technique will help you keep you clothes nice and straight.

Here’s a video on how it works!

6. Fleece wrap
A must have for cold nights and long flights, I love mine from Optidee and don’t fly without that, my neck pillow and my fluffy socks.

optidee omslagdoek enkel

7. Diffuser
We have diffusers in every room of our home to set the mood and add some natural scent when needed. So when I travel I like to bring one along (not all accomodation or rental cars are as fresh as I would like them to be), obviously I need a cute small one so the Young Living orb is the best travelbuddy (great for at work or in the car as well as they charge with an usb outlet. I haven’t used it in the plane yet but this next trip I am going to test that.

orb plus uitlet

8. Essential Oils
Duh, if I use them at home obviously I need them on the road, flight and where I am staying. To make sure I am relaxed, my ears adjust to the different heights, I sleep sound, my tummy stays happy and for any aches, scrapes and immune support that I need.

9. Supplements
I use supplements daily and will pack them all, sorted & counted per day, in 3 ziploc bags marked morning, aftenoon and evening. But the one I use extra on the road is Life 9, I am extremely sensitive to water abroad (I’ve had years of health problemd from unwanted guests I’ve brought back from holiday so trust me on this I need to keep my gut healthy and uninviting) and even though I don’t drink it and avoid ice cubes all fresh produce in restaurants is washed in it. So probiotics are a must during and after a trip abroad. I also pack Ningxia Red singles to keep up my energy and give my body all the antioxidants it needs on a daily basis.

NINGXIA RED v1.1

10. Clothes vs activities
I make a list of the days we are abroad and the activities on that day and that’s how I pick my outfits. This is more for the business trips we make as on holiday it’s not so important what to wear I mean it’s all bikini’s and summer dresses with matching flipflops right 😉

11. Beauty/Personal products
Bringing all of your beauty products will increase the weight of your suitcase so here are some easy ways to bring less and how to store it.

Portable silicone (preferably those that stick to the wall) for shampoo, conditioners and showergel. Don’t fill them up all the way or they will overflow 😉

Sucker-Portable-Silicone-Travel-Empty-Refillable-Bottle-Shampoo-Cream-Lotion-Cosmetic-Tube-Container-With-Sucker-Best.jpg_640x640

or alternatively you can bring small foampump bottles. Just one table spoon of your showergel of facewash, add water and you have plenty to last you your trip.

small foampump

Put facecream in either lenscases or in stackeable containers

Don’t you just hate it when bathrooms don’t have enough storage space for all your toiletries, well we brought this on a cruise with us and it was so helpful as a place to store all of our toiletries!

ikea shoe organizer

12. Suitcase organizers
ok last one … But have you ever had your suitcase opened at customs returning from a trip? I have and believe me it is not a pretty site to have your dirty underware all over the suitcase. And flying out I like to be able to grab my bikini or any other item I need when I get to my room and not have to search my whole suitcase for it. So all underwear together, beachware together etc. you get the point right. suitcase organisers

Now I purposely did not add any “where to purchase links” because to be honest I buy a lot of these things on Ali Express and the sellers and the products they offer change constantly so just google them or search there with the description and I am sure you will find it!

Last but not least here’s my current master list,  “a living document” as I update it after every trip so one day it will be the ultimate packing list and I will never forget a thing I need.

{ Conscious Language }

(scroll down for dutch translation}

Over the last 3 months I have manifested, viualised, used conscious language and asked the universe for abundance to reach a business goal. Doing this, having done it and continuing to do this is not an obvious thing for me to do.

oola words of encouragement

Remaining positive towards and for others is something I’m good at, as I mentor my biz team but my own little Negative Nelly voice often said different things to me. During my leadership training in Croatia I heard and learned more about conscious  language from Marcella vonn Harting it reminded me of video’s by Carol Yeh Garner about the power of the mind and I realized that I needed to obliterate that voice.

I mean seriously after 47 years it was time! Everything was going uphill for me, our family, finally, dreams were/are being realized but why was I still saying “yes but” and doubting great things were on the horizon. I was able to see greatness in others and convinced them that dreaming big and believing it was the first step to fulfilling them but had a hard time setting goals and believing in them without thinking “yeah but …” or “if this then that ….”

oola change yourself

So after Croatia I started applying the right words or replacing them when I slipped up and I was getting better at it! A friend and team member hosted an AFT (Aroma Freedom Technique) with our team member and I seized that opportunity to reinforce that change. I can now sincerely say nothing is impossible if you deeply believe in it without a doubt or nagging Nelly in your head.

oola focus on the positives

Last week together with our team we raised the bar,  and through doing this we taught them that when we work hard together towards a mutual goal, believe, manifest, visualise and use conscious language the impossible can happen for them too.

So how about you? Do you have a nagging Negative Nelly within you? I encourage you to learn more about it, implement it and watch your life transform, you deserve it!

your mind is a powerfull thing

Nederlands:

Do it scared

A big portion of my job entails public speaking; whether it be in front of a small or bigger group educating about oils, how I got into this business or how we use young living products . Depending on what I talk about, to whom and the size of the group it can be easy or a bit nerve wrecking. But I don’t let that throw me off, even the greatest speakers need to prep, calm their nerves and to be the best they can be.

This month Young Living it’s biggest event in the Netherlands to date and I was asked to share my story which of course I love doing always that hoping that our story will inspire someone to not give up no matter what.

But … that doesn’t make it easier to speak in front of 400 people or so. I prepared what i wanted to say and wrote it all out, rehearsed, oiled up and still was afraid I would forget something vital I wanted to share.

Right before it was my turn, a few of my friends spoke before me, my nerves almost got the best of me. I literally thought, after standing on stage for 30 minutes waiting until it was my turn, that I was going to faint, until I got a hold of the microphone … and my blood rushed back and it was game on for me!

Turned out that that was enough to calm my nerves and do my thing, strange how my body relaxed at that moment. Which was strange since it was quite the audience, my friends, my family (husband & mom), my team, other team members, my colleagues and Gary and Mary Young, founders of Young Living. I was so lucky to have many of my tribe there supporting me and being my cheerleaders as always.

People listened, laughed, clapped and appreciated my talk and my cheat sheet remained safely in my pocket (you can see it on the photo below) so I could not be distracted and even though I forgot some things it was ok, my presentation was imperfectly perfect.

33517120086_baa73a1345_o.jpg

Again, as so many things in my life, this has shown me that even though something may be scary but it usually ends up being something great and if you can do something even though it scares you you can do anything.  My mantra:

do it scared

And until next time I will focus on methods to calm myself before I speak, finetune my presentation skills because I will do this again, scared or not, I will!

VERTALING NEDERLANDS:

{ filmpje }

Mijn mantra

{ foto met quote }

On my Bookshelf – June 2016

A of late I have been collecting a lot of books and I really need to start reading them!!

Books for self development:

books zelfontplooine

Books for relaxation and flipping through:

books leuk

As you can see there is an e-reader on top (kindle to be specific) as I download most of my reading genre, but the books under my kindle are either gifts, on loan or books I bought secondhand.

My favorite genre is fantasy, more specific vampires, witches, some fairies and everything inbetween. Want to know what I’ve read so far ? Visit my Goodreads bookshelf!
(wouldn’t it be great if there was something similar for movies, IMDB is fun for trailers but I don’t keep track of movie’s or series I’ve seen and I’m unsure if you can connect with other movie/serie lovers there….)

If you have any books on self development and/or the genre that I like please recommend them I love to expand my bookshelves!

My favourite things

I used to have a blog where I shared my favourite things regularly, then I merged it with this blog and never got back into it. Guess what ? It’s back !!

12946810_10153597950157984_242235285_o

  1. Revenge
Currently in season 3, watching episode 9, curious to see where the seasons finally will go. I love watching series online, having a marathon all by myself while doing other things, it’s my thing multitasking while watching my shows.
  2. Mantrabands
I give these to my team when they reach goals, give them to special people in my life and love receiving them myself. They are so awesome and inspiring, I have 3 sofar ….
  3. Stress Away
I seriously cannot live without this in my life, don’t leave home without it !
Young Living should rename this into the mommy oil LOL It is a blend with Lime, Lavender, Ocotea, Copaiba and Vanilla in that does wonders for my soul. My favorite in the diffuser combined with peppermint in the evening to wind down and I love it when I am hosting parties, baking a cake, driving the car, have meetings, rushing with a deadline, uhm well everything I guess. Trust me we all need stress away in our lives …
  4. Filofax Maldens
I have had filofax type planners when I left school and started my professional career. I started with fake planners in pocket size and later upgrading to a Personal sized. A few years ago I treated myself to a real filofax and I must say the Malden Filofax brings me planner peace even more so since I moved from my personal size into an A5.
  5. Herome WIC Brussels
I love Essie nailpolish, it is the bomb but I will always remain in love with this color from Herome. Whenever I wear it, just plain or combine it with gold glitters, I receive so many compliments. It is the perfect taupe with a glisten to it when you look closely in the light, not pearlescent (hate that in nailpolish sorry) but it gives it a nice pop.
  6. Bobbi Brown beauty products
My skin has had a rough time over the last few years, the stress took it’s toll on my combination skin and I have been struggling getting it to a good state. I always have a strict regime and I’m known for this amongst my friends (the girl with the creams for everything), drink a lot of water, always use sunscreen but stress is a doozy. So after seeing Bobbi Brown in my favorite beauty store I decided to try 1 product, the extra eyecream and was hooked. So the next month I bought the nightcream and every month I have slowly been replacing my old products and  my skin is returning to normal. Love the fact that Bobbi uses essential oils in her products but doesn’t make them too smelly which I prefer.

Let me know if you decide to try any of these and if you like them !

Hello 2016

I have never had so much fun working up to and during Christmas and New Year in a long time. In the past I was too preocupied with getting it all right so I guess it had a lot with stress, being a working mom I wanted to be a superwoman, making everyone happy, making sure all the prezzies were in, all the right food, nice decorations yadehyadehya you know the drill … And you all know what happens if momma is tired, they go through the motions but are not enjoying the moment.

Because let’s face it, raising 2 teenagers is not easy, add into that a husband who’s been unemployed for over 2,5 years, working a FT job and starting up a business was a lot to digest for us all. This past year was a whole new deal, me (and my family) had the roughest year together to date but there have been a lot of happy memories made as well. We stuck together, we laughed because you know you have crazy things happening with a special dog, 2 cats and 2 teenage boys, we cried when we said goodbye to an important member of our family we survived it all with ups and downs.

We made it work, I made it work and we slowly started to see things were looking up for us, My husband found a job, my boys were still hormonal but it was easier to deal with because we were under less stress, I said goodbye to my job and concentrated on my work as a independent distributor, started focussing on my health again with eating more and weightlifting and we all started to enjoy life a bit more.

Thus resulting in a more relaxed mommy that was looking forward to decorating the halls with holly, getting into the christmas spirit and making it a fun, easygoing holiday season. Got all the grocery and gift shopping done without the crazy feeling and it was just a fun time just like it should always be!

This past year has put a lot in perspective for me and yes it is too bad that it has taken me so long to realise this but on the other hand life is all about learning and I needed to have these experiences to be ready for a change, growth and purpose.

If there is one thing I would like to tell you from my experiences is get rid of what’s making you unhappy and change your life completely, it’s scary yes but instead of just going through the motions of your daily life, take a chance and live it to it’s fullest it’s so much more fun.

in the end we only regret

I have been fortunate to be able to change my job and now work a passion driven business owner, I didn’t look for it, it found me and I wasn’t afraid to go for it.

Reflecting on 2015 I would say we flourished in the second half of 2015 and for 2016 I want us all to thrive … As a person, in our work and in our health.

It’s my one little word that I will be focussing on this year, have you thought about it ? what word describes best what you want for yourself this year ? Please share it with me in the comments I would love to know ❤

The great deodorant debate

Over the past years I’ve used these deodorants on a regular basis (my husband used Aramis and I switched from Donna’s Cashmere Mist to Aramis in the winter and Odorex Extra Dry in the summer).

deoderant debate collageAnd although they worked very wel, they are very strong (with many ingredients to make this happen of which a lot I am convinced are not very healthy for my skin and body in the long run) and expensive (wel Aramis and the Cashmere Mist are anyway) so I was always looking for a healthier, more natural option but would also get the job done. I’ve tried quite a few, let me tell you but I just don’t like to smell bad so a lot of them ended up in the trash.

Until I met the boys from Ohm Deo Dorant that is, we met at a Young Living event in the Netherlands and at a Health and Healing trade show. I was intrigued by the simplicity of the product, a safe natural (based on essential oils and sodium bi carbonate) and effective deodorant that supports the bodies own process.

ohm collectieThey describe their deodorant as “The most effective natural deodorant available, in powder form. By using the most exclusive essential oils with the highest quality possible, our Deo Dorant actually protects your scented body rather than damage it,  whilst keeping it ultimately fresher and more alkaline than anything natural or synthetic available.

So whilst you can make sure you feed your body with more alkaline foods such as lots of vegetables, fruit and less meat, coffee and wheat (which are acedogenic and cause the undesirable armpit smell …)

And you know I would not have shared this new favourite find if I had not put this product to the test and loved it ! It has kept me fresh during my tough workouts with my personal trainer, when I had my first presentation in front of at leas 50 (!) people for Young Living and even when I get up in the morning and am working in my sweats behind my laptop and shower around noon (yes that happens every now and then and I’m sure I’m not the only one LOL).

My youngest dude and I use coconut and my husband and oldest dude are using Sacred Frankincense. And using it is so easy ! I apply it directly when I get out of the shower, I don’t dry my armpits as they have to be a bit damp. I shake the container onto my hand twice and apply under my armpit and a bit above and below (you know above and under where the hair used to be 😉 ) and that’s more than enough for a long day of freshness, no matter what you encounter !

theohm_uitlegOhm deo dorant is available in 8 fragrances ( I have listed them below)  so there is always one that will take your fancy, no matter which gender you are. I Iove the fact that they offer them in a small packaging () to sample them for their effectiveness and scent for under 3 euro’s ! A large container is 21,95 which will go a long way (at least 6 months) as you only need to apply1 to 2 doses in the morning to get through a day. They also have a teenage/kids line, No Sweat,  which I will be ordering soon for the dudes (al versions are sold online at my fave online store Green Jump).
