I was blown away when I was asked by Young Living to give a presentation at Beauty School in Vienna but also honored and freaked out at the same time. Don’t get me wrong I love sharing, teaching about what I know but in front of a group of people that do exactly the same thing as you always puts the pressure on to wow them.
My presentation was about a toxic-free lifestyle and I had 45 min. to cover it all. Our story, my story and how we made the transition and why I haven’t made the complete clean swap up until now.
I taught it is not important to read labels, it’s more important to read the ingredient list. Most of the labels used do not even carry weight and are fabricated to make consumers believe they are taking the healthier road. even carry weight and are fabricated to make consumers believe they are taking the healthier road, it’s called greenwashing. I know, I was fooled for a long time, and the change came long before I discovered Young Living, however it was a very logical addition to our home.
When our first child was born in 2001 I tried (what I thought) were more natural alternatives to support us but my real journey started in 2006.
Due to health issues I had to change my eating habits and with the insights I was given I found a new way of cooking. Packets and ready made sauces were chucked and we stocked up on fresh herbs, spices and recipes from scratch. My health improved and our eating habits improved and became second nature.
But it wasn’t until 2014 that we kicked it up a notch, I discovered Young Living Essential Oils and like I said I thought we were trying natural alternatives but boy was I wrong! Over the past few years we have replaced a multitude of toxic personal care products for ourselves, our pets and our home with Young Living products, either ready to use or diy’ing to make them.
I urge you to check the beauty and personal care products in your home with this list, scary no?
I am currently in my last clean swap fase, one I find the hardest to do but also the most fun and expensive, my make-up bag is going organic …
The think dirty app is helping me and I love following beauty bloggers that have gone before me. Organic Bunny (USA) and Organic Beauty Babe (Europe) are a great reference and I am following numerous on Instagram to learn more. I am currently testing Lily Lolo and Creative Cosmetics and my next test order will be for at least lipstick from 100 Percent Pure and nailpolish from Acquarella. If you can recommend any brands that are easily obtainable in Europe please let me know.
I used to have a blog where I shared my favourite things regularly, then I merged it with this blog and never got back into it. Guess what ? It’s back !!
Currently in season 3, watching episode 9, curious to see where the seasons finally will go. I love watching series online, having a marathon all by myself while doing other things, it’s my thing multitasking while watching my shows.
I give these to my team when they reach goals, give them to special people in my life and love receiving them myself. They are so awesome and inspiring, I have 3 sofar ….
- Stress Away
I seriously cannot live without this in my life, don’t leave home without it !
Young Living should rename this into the mommy oil LOL It is a blend with Lime, Lavender, Ocotea, Copaiba and Vanilla in that does wonders for my soul. My favorite in the diffuser combined with peppermint in the evening to wind down and I love it when I am hosting parties, baking a cake, driving the car, have meetings, rushing with a deadline, uhm well everything I guess. Trust me we all need stress away in our lives …
- Filofax Maldens
I have had filofax type planners when I left school and started my professional career. I started with fake planners in pocket size and later upgrading to a Personal sized. A few years ago I treated myself to a real filofax and I must say the Malden Filofax brings me planner peace even more so since I moved from my personal size into an A5.
- Herome WIC Brussels
I love Essie nailpolish, it is the bomb but I will always remain in love with this color from Herome. Whenever I wear it, just plain or combine it with gold glitters, I receive so many compliments. It is the perfect taupe with a glisten to it when you look closely in the light, not pearlescent (hate that in nailpolish sorry) but it gives it a nice pop.
- Bobbi Brown beauty products
My skin has had a rough time over the last few years, the stress took it’s toll on my combination skin and I have been struggling getting it to a good state. I always have a strict regime and I’m known for this amongst my friends (the girl with the creams for everything), drink a lot of water, always use sunscreen but stress is a doozy. So after seeing Bobbi Brown in my favorite beauty store I decided to try 1 product, the extra eyecream and was hooked. So the next month I bought the nightcream and every month I have slowly been replacing my old products and my skin is returning to normal. Love the fact that Bobbi uses essential oils in her products but doesn’t make them too smelly which I prefer.
Let me know if you decide to try any of these and if you like them !
Two things I want to share with you to start this year off are
Let’s make it a great year people ~ !
Since I started using Facebook and Instagram it’s anoying the ….. out of me that I’ve been neglected my blog. Are any off my followers experiencing this too ? And if so how did you solve this. I love having my blogs (Since Pinterest I’ve kept 2 of the 3) and writing fun tidbits about our lives but I just don’t seem to get around to it, i really want to make the effort as i love reading other blogs of friends irl and on the internet.
Pondering over this dilemma for a while and I hope to get some ideas from you or maybe come up with some myself….
I am aiming to work hard on my one little word this year, I chose the word EMBRACE.
I want to embrace that I cannot be perfect, embrace that I can let go more and let the flow take me along, embrace my loved ones more, embrace the fun things in life more, embrace the slow proces of decluttering my house (Rome was not built in a day i am told), embrace blogging again (looking at my stats I have been blogging less and less since 2006 when I started), embrace that I have to say NO even if people don’t like it (i cannot be friends with everyone), embrace my blog more, embrace my body more, embrace 2012 !
What’s your word for 2012 ?
